An story concept sketch from the Disney Studios animated musical masterpiece, "Fantasia" (1940). Featuring a loose yet fabulous sketch of a preening Centaurette, the graphite drawing was created at the studio and used during the early development process of the "Pastoral Symphony" segment of the film. Albert Hurter and Martin Provensen both worked on the sequence and were inspired by the artwork of Arnold Bocklin, a moody symbolist painter, Franz Von Stuck, an art nouveau era artist, and Heinrich Kley, an illustrator and painter. However, throughout the animation process the centaurettes and centaurs became less realistic and took on a more comedic and "cartoony" appearance. Measuring 10"x12" overall, with the character image measuring 8"x11", the drawing is in very good condition with light edge wear, discoloration, and creased corners due to age and handling.
